Twitter is a super fast paced social media platform and getting good exposure is not a walk in the park. Planning the right strategy to improve exposure is definitely tiring; physically and mentally.

In this post, you’ll learn about the Twitter tools that will help you discover the type of content that gets shared the most on Twitter. I know you’re dying to find stellar content to share on Twitter. So, carry on  folks!

1. Buzzsumo

Buzzsumo describes itself as “Analyze what content performs best for any topic or competitor”. So, what is Buzzsumo?

You’ve probably heard the buzz around it. Social media and search engine influencers are constantly using Buzzsumo as a part of their strategies.

But wait! What makes Buzzsumo such a popular tool?

For us, it boils down to two things. First, it gets the job done and second, it gets the job done quickly.

Buzzsumo allows you to perform a variety of searches such as:

  • Keywords
  • Filter by date:
  • Language
  • Country
  • Filter by content type (article, infographic etc)
  • Popularity (based on number of social shares)

Unlike Google or other similar search engines which provide search results based on relevancy, Buzzsumo filters the data based on number of social shares the content gets.

2. Hootsuite

We use Hootsuite for a variety of reasons and one of them is for content discovery. There are two ways to use Hootsuite to discover great content; custom search and Hootsuite content suggestions.

When it comes to searching for relevant keywords on Twitter, Hootsuite allows you to do pretty much everything!

Hootsuite custom search allows you to create different search queries such as:

  • “Keywords” AND #keyword
  • “Keyword A” OR “Keyword B”

You can create close to unlimited search queries simply by using Hootsuite.

Another great thing about Hootsuite is the content suggestions. Using algorithms that detect the types of articles you share on social, it provides a list of content that your readers may find useful.

All you need to do is hit schedule and Hootsuite will do the rest for you!

3. Triberr

I’ll have to admit. I cheated a little. Triberr isn’t actually a Twitter tool but it is a great tool for content discovery (especially if you’re focusing on Twitter marketing).

So, what is Triberr?

Triberr is a social network for bloggers. The idea is to find other bloggers who write about the same topics. These writers group up in a tribe. Whenever one blogger writes a post, the others read, comment and share it with their social networks. Source.

Triberr allows you to connect with bloggers, influencers and marketers across the world. All you need to do is connect your social accounts (Twitter, Facebook and/or LinkedIn) and you can start sharing them across automatically.

Here are the steps needed to make Triberr work for you:

  • Join tribes (like Facebook groups) related closely to your niche
  • Participate in the tribe and be active
  • Triberr timeline will show a list of articles (pulled from RSS feeds) which are new and trending

Then, go through the timeline of popular articles and run them through Buzzsumo to see which ones are the most popular on Twitter.

4. Hashtagify

If you’re looking for a tool to find popular hashtags, Hashtagify is your best bet. At the time of this writing, it has over 40 million hashtags in its database. Yes, that’s a huge number to say the least!

Using Hashtagify is really simple. Head over to their official website (here), enter the hashtag you want to research and hit enter.

You’ll likely get several results back. There are a few different views you can choose from such as basic, advanced, and table mode. You’ll also see the top tweets on the right column of the page. Finally, you can determine the popularity of the related hashtags by hovering over them.

This is a great alternative to Hashtagify and it provides slightly different reports for your research.

It provides the estimated number of tweets (related to the specific hashtag you’ve searched) per hour which is extremely important if you’re using specific, event-based hashtags. Scroll down the page and you’ll find recent tweets related to the hashtag you’re searching for. is a freemium tool and free accounts come with a limited feature set. However, make no mistake. The free version can be very powerful if you use it correctly.
