I got an email from Pat Flynn recently that really got me thinking.

He talks about the mindset trap of feeling like you always have to write epic content.

It’s something I’ve noticed a lot of bloggers and content marketers have been feeling lately.

It’s easy to understand the mindset trap when you read stuff like this by Brian Dean from Backlinko.

Don’t get me wrong. I’m not disagreeing with Brian’s statement.

To get AMAZING results, you need to produce AMAZING content.

BUT

You’re not going to get any results if you don’t publish any content.

You also won’t get good results unless you write about something your audience cares about! Even if it is epic.

So, what can you do?

Well, Pat says “Just Write” and I agree, but I want to take it one step further.

Write, Distribute, Listen, Iterate

It’s all about iteration and the feedback loop.

Here’s what I mean.

Go ahead and write and distribute your “pretty good” blog post.

Did it resonate with your audience?

If if did, improve it and redistribute it.

Did it get more traction?

Sweet! Now, you can put the time and effort into making it EPIC.

If it didn’t, your audience probably doesn’t care about it that much so you can stop wasting your time.

Simple, right?

It’s much less pressure and a much better use of your time because you’re writing about what your audience actually cares about!

I’m about to take my own advice and wrap this post up.
